The much talked iPad 7.85 inches - it can definitely be considered a mini iPad - will not arrive early next year, but at the end.
According to DigiTimes, "sources of the supply chain" probably believe that Apple will release the iPad 7.85 inches in the fourth quarter of 2012.
Before that, in the first quarter, the Cupertino company will present the successor to the iPad 2, probably called iPad 3 (reportedly, this will have a 10-inch screen with a resolution above 2048 x 1536 pixels).

7.85 inches iPad must have the same resolution screen as the iPad 2 (1024 x 768 pixels). Other specifications are unknown at the moment, but this assumption iPad mini competition to come to make new and very popular Amazon Kindle Fire (at least 2 million of them have been sold so far).
